Mirror Pal- music comes with side effects

Author: Denise Burnsed, 03 20th, 2008

Mirror PalTake a listen to Mirror Pal (www.myspace.com/mirrorpal), an amazing indie band based near Orlando, Florida. Describing their music as “soul/rock/ambient” on their website, these guys really do put out a sound that fits that description.

Last year, I walked into a club in the Daytona Beach area…and found myself stopping dead in my tracks alongside the stage…because of the music. Mirror Pal was performing, and what was emanating from the stage was intricate, mesmerizing, and very impressive. I was enjoying the moment, and became an instant fan. “Enjoy life” happens to be a Mirror Pal motto.
So, let’s see: instant fanship….enjoying life…sounds like doses of Mirror Pal comes with some pretty good side effects.

For a full-fledged dose of some of the Florida Panhandle’s genuine, pure Americana, you’ve just got to check out the Jim Crozier Band! It’s sweet, sweet sounds to swing on your backporch with, y’all…or to shake a leg to…your choice…..ahhhh…

The CD “Down to the Village” is available on both CDBaby and iTunes, as well as at selected outlets in the Tallahassee area. The website is www.jimcrozier.com.

Keep on playing that true blue music, Jim!

Redboy – Among Gainesville’s Finest Rock Bands

Author: Allen Guthier, 02 10th, 2008

RedboyFrom the first moment Redboy takes the stage, you can prepare yourself for an unforgettable musical experience. Led by songstresses Maria Carter and Meredith McCall, Redboy takes rock and elevates to a level of quality rarely seen in Gainesville. As Anne Peters smoothly works her way across her violin, you can feel the vibrations deep into your soul. The low end is admirably managed by bassist Denise Burnsed and drummer T.J. Baker, both of whom can be seen enjoying each and every moment on stage.

Unlike many rock bands, Redboy’s lyrics are not to be underestimated, touching on subjects ranging from the haunting nightmares of “Ghosts” to the overtly facetious “Marlboro Man.” Next time you’re in the Gainesville area, be sure to check out one of their shows. You can also preview and purchase their latest CD, “Save Me” online at http://cdbaby.com/cd/redboy. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

* Full Disclosure: I seriously considered not writing this review so that there would never be the perception of a conflict of interest at MyFaveBands.com, especially since Denise Burnsed is also currently working as my wife’s bassist. However, I realized that denying a fantastic band like Redboy any additional exposure would be unfair to them.

Chocolate for the ears…

Author: Denise Burnsed, 02 08th, 2008

If “rich, sultry, silky” are words that describe your favorite chocolate, then prepare to experience the aural equivalent of your fave chocolate upon hearing the voice of Sarah Mac of the Sarah Mac Band! Based in Tallahassee, Florida, the SMB is one of Florida’s true indie jewels. Sarah, along with the superb musicianship of bandmates Charlie Vanture, Claire Swindell, and Keli Swearingen, have been playing all over the Southeast, winning rave reviews. Their song “I Can’t Change” just blows me away…check them out on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/sarahmacband and at their website: http://www.sarahmacband.com
